When a high school student wins an international coding competition, it usually starts long before the final buzzer — with belief, passion, and the willingness to own the work. At just 17 years old, Enrique Hernandez has already learned something many people spend a lifetime discovering: success begins with believing in what is possible, pursuing what you love, and taking ownership of the work required to achieve your goals.
A 2025 alumnus of the Ultimate Life Summit (ULS), Enrique recently put those lessons into action on an international stage, earning first place at the Coding Olympiad. The Coding Olympiad brings together students from countries around the world to develop and demonstrate their STEM skills through challenging programming competitions. Enrique entered the “Challenges by Codementum” category and spent 10 months preparing, solving hundreds of programming problems along the way.
That commitment paid off. Competing against more than 137 students from over 10 countries in the international qualifying rounds, Enrique placed second globally and earned a 50% scholarship to represent Honduras at the Grand Final in New York City.
At the final competition, students had 90 minutes to complete 30 programming challenges. Enrique solved all 30 with the maximum possible score. Even more impressively, he finished in approximately 30 minutes, a full hour before the deadline. His performance earned him first place in the 9th–11th Grade category and the best completion time in the entire competition — the kind of result that turns a promising student coder into an international coding champion.
For Enrique, the experience was about more than coding. He credits three of the 7 Mindsets with shaping the way he approached the challenge.
- Everything Is Possible helped him overcome the initial doubt he felt competing against students from around the world. Believing he truly had a chance to win gave Enrique confidence to keep improving.
- Passion First fueled his preparation. Because programming is something Enrique genuinely loves, daily practice never felt like a burden. It became an opportunity to learn, improve, and pursue something meaningful.
- 100% Accountable reminded Enrique that preparation was his responsibility. He understood that this opportunity required consistent effort, discipline, and ownership.
Enrique’s achievement is a powerful example of what can happen when young people develop the mindsets to dream bigger, pursue their passions, and take purposeful action.
At ULS, students are encouraged to imagine what is possible for their lives. Enrique — now an international coding champion — is showing just how far that belief can take them.
