The Attendance Math

Attendance Recovery That Pays for Itself

~$435K

average attendance funding preserved per campus in one year.

Estimated range: $402K to $502K per campus in reclaimed state apportionment.

~6,699

student-days of attendance reclaimed per school site

~372

cumulative student-months of chronic absenteeism eliminated per school site

~$2.6M

total funding preserved across the network ($2.4M to $3.0M)

In California, funding follows attendance. Under the Local Control Funding Formula, districts earn state apportionment through Average Daily Attendance, so every day a student returns to class returns dollars to the district. And because these campuses serve high proportions of English learners, foster youth, and low-income students, consistent attendance also protects the supplemental and concentration grant multipliers that fund targeted student support.

Reclaimed attendance funding alone delivers a return that outweighs the investment in mindset-based learning. The culture change pays for itself.

Estimates based on standard California LCFF apportionment rates of $60 to $75 per student per day ($65 mid-range) and 18 instructional days per month, applied to LAUSD’s 2025-26 chronic absenteeism analysis. Net result across the six campuses analyzed.

How We Work Together

A Partnership Built on Collaboration & Support

7 Mindsets works alongside the Division of Instruction as a transformation partner, not a vendor. When Los Angeles educators give us feedback, the partnership changes shape to match.

DI
Embedded With the Division of Instruction

Implementation, professional development, and data review run in direct collaboration with district instructional leadership, so the work stays aligned to Los Angeles Unified's priorities.

PD

Professional Development Educators Rate Highly

LA participants described sessions as clear, well-paced, and thoughtfully facilitated, with engaging multimedia, reflection activities, and valued time to collaborate with peers.

We Listen, Then We Change

Based on school site feedback, professional development is now scheduled around each site's calendar rather than fixed times, and formerly separate programs are integrated into one experience.

EI
Early Intervention That Works

As campuses surfaced low-level student needs earlier, major behavior incidents declined, including a 46.7% drop in major incidents at one secondary campus.

Aligned to the 2026-30 Strategic Plan

"Provide a rigorous, joyful, and culturally relevant education for all that ensures students achieve academic success and social-emotional well-being."
Los Angeles Unified Mission Statement
Pillar 1 · Academic Excellence
Achievement that reaches every learner

In an independent third-party study of 58,000+ students, mindset-based instruction produced statistically significant gains in English and math, with the strongest results for high-need students, the very groups LA has prioritized.

Pillar 2 · Joy and Wellness
Belonging, attendance, and well-being

The competencies growing across LA's 7 Mindsets sites map directly to the plan's LCAP measures: safety, belonging, attendance, and whole-child well-being. Culture change is how those metrics move.

Pillar 5 · Investing in Staff
Adults first, always

Transformation starts with educators. Adults-first activation, the Empowering Educators platform, and leadership coaching support the well-being and retention goals at the heart of the plan.
