CASA GRANDE — Local middle schools are noticing positive changes after adopting a new social education program this school year.

Principals of Casa Grande, Cactus and Villago middle schools showcased the benefits of their “7 Mindsets” program on Thursday through pep rallies, classroom demonstrations and a panel discussion.

The schools began implementing the mindsets, taken from a book about successful personality traits, at the start of the school year through weekly lessons in the classroom.

The mindsets are seemingly simple, teaching the social value of generosity or accountability. But teachers may add their own personal touch to keep students engaged.

In Michelle Fike’s classroom, she tried convincing kids of the importance of pursuing their passions by sharing a personal anecdote. She recalled how her mother attempted to dissuade her from becoming a teacher but realized it was her passion after other career choices didn’t match.

That seems to be the purpose of the 7 Mindsets: getting students and teachers to honestly open up and rethink how to approach a given situation.
