Dr. Byron McClure

Director of Innovation

Dr. Byron McClure brings over ten years of experience advancing youth social-emotional development through culturally affirming, evidence-based strategies. Now the Director of Innovation at 7 Mindsets, Dr. McClure previously transformed student and staff perspectives by promoting strength-based approaches grounded in Positive Psychology and SEL frameworks. A National Certified School Psychologist, he reimagined SEL as Assistant Director of School Redesign at a high school in Southeast D.C., focusing on systemic change and equitable access to quality education for students in high-poverty communities. Dr. McClure brings deep expertise in mental health, social-emotional learning (SEL), and human behavior. He has championed equitable discipline practices, particularly for African-American boys, and led initiatives such as SEL, restorative practices, MTSS, and trauma-responsive approaches. His efforts earned his school the DCPS Whole Child Award. A national keynote speaker and thought leader in SEL, Dr. McClure, as Director of Innovation at 7 Mindsets, focuses on developing culturally responsive SEL content that shifts mindsets from “what’s wrong” to “what’s strong” and unlocks limitless potential.
