Over the past decade, many school districts across the country have embraced social-emotional learning (SEL) programs to promote positive behavior among students and address conduct problems such as bullying. The COVID-19 pandemic further popularized these programs because remote learning and isolation caused many students to suffer both academically and emotionally. SEL programs have shown potential to address yet another challenge: They can serve to combat school- and community-based violence as an integral part of violence prevention programs in schools and districts.

Independent Research Study Validates Efficacy of 7 Mindsets on Improving Student Behaviors

7 Mindsets announced the findings of an independent research study validating its program’s efficacy in improving behavior outcomes for students. The study, led by Scott Elliot of SEG Measurement and conducted August through December 2019 in New Caney Independent School District in Texas, determined that 7 Mindsets instruction to middle school students can effectively reduce the frequency of teacher referrals and disciplinary actions for misbehavior.

We Are Connected: Mike Cruz Teaching The Mindsets

As teachers were on-boarding the 7 Mindsets in Casa Grande, Cruz invited his peers to join him for a workshop on how to teach their social emotional learning lessons more effectively, with less prep time. One month later, when our team visited Villago and Cactus Middle for a community open house, Cruz volunteered to come over and teach a group of students he had never met before. He chose the perfect mindset for this challenge: We Are Connected.
